Tendoryu Aikido - Tendokan Tokyo

Tendokan Tokyo

The Tendokan is the Dojo of Shimizu Sensei in Tokyo/Sangenjaya. From Sangenjaya station of the Chuorinkan Line (or Denentoshi Line) it is about five minutes walk to the Dojo, which is located a little off the road (Highway 246). The Dojo is at the second floor, and after passing a small hallway you are already on the Tatami – of course after bowing on your knees. Before entering the shoes will be put on a shoe board in the staircase – as usual in Japan. To reach the changing room you have to cross the Dojo – to the left for ladies and to the right for gents – passing the Dogis and Hakamas hanging from the ceiling at the right side of the Dojo. Directly from the Dojo you reach the bureau, where you enroll or manage other formalities.

There is nearly no talking before the lessons start, as the students prepare themselves mentally for the training. After the lesson all together clean the Dojo, and then the Dojo generally is available for about 30 minutes for free practice before the next lesson starts.

Lessons will take 45 minutes, and most of them are hold by Shimizu Sensei. Now and then and of course during Shimizu Sensei’s foreign seminars one of the trainer team will take over.

Have a nice time during your stay in Japan!
